The position: improve, extend and innovate our platform
As Java backend developer you’ll work in a top-notch team of 7 developers in the core services team, product owners and business stakeholders on translating business requirements into tangible software solutions within our e-commerce platform and adjacent systems. You’ll work using Scrum in a team with developers from Greetz and our near-shoring partners (in total 25 developers), where quality, stability and innovation play a large role in the daily work. Besides a hands-on role in software development you’ll spend a significant amount of time on improving your team and the codebase, for instance through code reviews, inspection and defining the strategic technical direction. We have short communication lines and are open and transparent (literally!). We combine a professional but familial atmosphere with a no-nonsense mentality. We offer a leading role defining future technical direction, technical design and implementation, tooling selection and test methodology. In short; a challenging position with hands-on software development, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer.
How we work
The Greetz platform has been largely built using Java. We believe in the open-source mindset and make frequent use of the Spring Framework (i.e. dependency injection) and Hibernate for data access. Besides these we make use of a large number of other open-source tools and frameworks like ElasticSearch, ActiveMQ, Quartz, etc.
The basis of the Greetz platform is a business logic layer that is included as a dependency by various clients (desktop website, mobile website, backoffice portal, etc.). Dependency management and building/packaging is done by Maven and our continuous integration environment is based on Atlassian Bamboo. In the automated build street the unit- and integration tests are executed as well as static code analysis using Sonar. For our SCM needs we rely on GitHub and based on the type of project work with Gitflow or feature branch workflow.
Some of our future challenges include decomposing our application into microservices, automating towards a continuous deployment model and cloud-migration of our data storage and asynchronous processes.

- You love to challenge yourself through solving highly complex technical problems and you’re familiar with the technology stack used at Greetz: Spring, Hibernate/JPA, Jersey/JAX-RS, JMS, Quartz, etc;
- You have working experience in Java software development in a Scrum-oriented environment;
- You have experience building middle-sized, maintainable and modular software platforms;
- You get a sense of achievement and satisfaction from getting the most out of yourself and your team by giving feedback, performing code reviews and implementing qualitative measurements;
- You have experience with the full lifecycle of a software product; from user story grooming to delivering working software in a continuous delivery environment;
- You’re fluent in English and have the ambition to learn Dutch;
- Experience in working in a geographically distributed team is a benefit.
