SIM-CI develops a software platform with accompanying tooling and services to assess and visualize the impact of multiple trends and disruptive events on societies and their critical infrastructures. Basically, we create an accurate digital twin copy of densely populated (urban) areas or (i.e. industrial) areas containing multiple critical, vital and potentially hazardous infrastructures, allowing them and inhabitants to interact. For the digital construction of the urban area we use geo-spatial data from various sources. At the moment, the data gathering and processing is only partly automated, but we wish to automate that in the near future. As a result, we are looking for someone who could help us with that. About you

We are looking for someone who is a critical thinker, fast paced learner and who strives for delivering high quality results. You are a mid-senior Geodata Engineer who will join our Development and Services Team to help us improving our data management solution. You would be responsible tasks such as:


• Setting up, updating and maintaining database servers
• Geo data gathering and management 
• Metadata management
• Enforcement of our data governance
• Data conversions
• Various sorts of spatial analysis and modelling
• Developing data pipelines

Requirements
• Bachelor/Master Degree in IT with orientation in geography or similar
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in GIS (open source or commercial license) and data pipelines
• Proficient in Python and SQL
• Familiar with Database administration
• Familiar with Linux OS
• Familiar with data licensing and copyrights
• Familiar with PostGIS, GeoServer, Geonetwork, FME or similar ETL
• Familiar with Scrum framework and Agile
• Preferably familiar with critical infrastructure geodatada
• Proficiency in Dutch and English both oral and written
• Flexible mindset (start-up mentality)

We are paving the road on developing a simulation platform to help cities towards resilience. We are a team of versatile, international, innovative, talented people. 
We provide simulation, analysis and visualization software to large companies or municipalities to create awareness about disruptive events that may affect their assets or societies and their vital infrastructures. When awareness is created, the software can also be used to train people to be better prepared for those crisis situations. Ultimately, adaptations to the digital world can be tested to mitigate the effects of those disruptions. 
The calculations are performed by our cloud based Simulation Engine that is able to concurrently simulate vital infrastructures of an urban area, whether it be traffic, the operation status of the electricity or telecom network, or people living and working in those areas. What makes us unique is the cascading effects between various infrastructures. To illustrate, a flooding can cause roads to become inaccessible, having influence on the traffic, can cause malfunction of transformers leading to a power failure in parts of the city. Power outage in turn have effect on the operation of telecom towers that have battery power for only a limited time.

PROPOSITION
SIM-CI develops a software platform with accompanying tooling and services to assess and visualize the impact of multiple trends and disruptive events on societies and their critical infrastructures. We allow the various simulation methods to run in parallel, benefitting from results at any stage of the simulation process. Basically, we create an accurate digital twin copy of densely populated (urban) areas or (i.e. industrial) areas containing multiple critical, vital and potentially hazardous infrastructures, allowing them and inhabitants to interact.


COLLECT
We start by developing a digital model of the geography collecting, creating and organizing all available data, whether open or payed for. We then create a digital copy that is a geographically and geometrically accurate representation of its real-life counterpart.


MODEL
We then proceed by plotting critical infrastructures into the digital twin prior to running a variety of (extreme) event scenario's like flooding, electricity failure or cyber hacking of critical infrastructure: For this purpose, we use our own models, but we can just as well incorporate client-built models and third-party models, we are in that sense data and model agnostic.


ANALYSE
We then calculate the effects, including cascading effects, and present these in various impact indicators, from number of people affected to projected costs: ANALYSE


MITIGATE
Finally, together with our clients, we consider various possible mitigation strategies and incorporate these to recalculate the effects
